KawmHmoob Privacy Policy
Devan Chuyen Lee
Privacy Policy Last updated: July 21, 2026
The short version Your voice recordings are analyzed on your device and are not uploaded or stored by us today.
We collect the minimum information needed to run the app: an account, your learning progress, and a few optional onboarding questions.
We do not sell your data.
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data by contacting us.
Who we are Kawm Hmoob (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is a Hmong language-learning app run by an individual developer.
For questions about this Privacy Policy or your information, contact us at techkage@proton.me.
What we collect Account information. When you create an account, we store your email address, username, and display name. Authentication is handled by Supabase.
Learning progress. We collect lessons completed, quiz scores, words studied, streaks, and points so your progress can be saved and synchronized across devices. If you use the app as a guest, this information remains only in your browser’s local storage on that device.
Optional profile details. During onboarding, we may ask for your age range, gender, dialect, relationship to the Hmong language, ethnicity, and region. Every one of these fields is optional. You can select “prefer not to say,” skip them, or update them later in Settings.
Basic technical data. We and our hosting providers may process standard technical information needed to provide and secure the app, such as browser type, device type, and related service logs.
Your voice recordings When you use the Speak feature, your microphone recording is analyzed entirely within your browser to compare your pitch with a native speaker’s.
Your recording is not sent to our servers and is not stored by us. It exists only in your device’s memory while you practice and is discarded when you make another recording or leave the page.
We may later offer an opt-in community voice dataset to improve Hmong pronunciation tools. If that feature launches, contributing recordings will be a separate and explicit choice. We will explain what is collected, how it is stored, and why before any recording is saved.
Sensitive information Ethnicity may be considered sensitive or special-category personal data under certain privacy laws, including the GDPR.
We ask about ethnicity only as an optional profile detail that may help make a future Hmong voice dataset more representative. It is never required to use the app, is not shown publicly, and may be skipped by choosing “prefer not to say.”
How we use information We use information we collect to:
Run the app and save your learning progress
Personalize your learning experience, such as by using your selected dialect
Understand aggregate app usage and improve the product
Build an open Hmong pronunciation dataset only when you separately opt in
We do not sell your personal information.
Where your data is stored Account and learning-progress data are stored using Supabase, our database and authentication provider. Supabase may process data on servers in the United States or other locations.
We restrict access so that, during normal operation, users can read and change only their own account data.
Cookies and local storage We use browser local storage to keep you signed in and to store guest progress and preferences.
We do not use third-party advertising cookies or tracking cookies.
Your rights and choices You may access, correct, or delete your account information and related data. You can update certain information in Settings, or contact us to request a copy of your data or deletion of your account.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under applicable privacy laws, including the GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act. We will honor valid requests under applicable law.
To make a privacy request, email techkage@proton.me.
Children Kawm Hmoob is intended for a general audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, or below the minimum age required in their country, without appropriate consent.
If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will take steps to remove it.
Changes to this policy We may update this Privacy Policy as the app develops, including if paid features or the opt-in voice dataset become available. When we make changes, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. We will highlight significant changes within the app when appropriate.
