This community is hyper-sensitive, hypocritical, and forgets the original purpose of the game.
This post is commentary regarding the hypocrisy radiating from this community. I am not endorsing or supporting YandereDev, and I'm doing my best to remain respectful.
I think it's important for the community to reflect on the original intent behind the game and to approach our criticism with a more nuanced understanding.
I feel as if people fail to remember an important aspect of the game; that the game was conceived as a satirical take on Japanese anime tropes, particularly those viewed through an American lens. Its exaggerated elements, including themes that some may find provocative or uncomfortable — are not endorsements of those ideas, but rather a commentary/parody/satiric immersion on the often extreme and stylized nature of certain anime genres, anime culture, hentai, and Japanese stereotypes.
It’s understandable that people may take issue with the more controversial aspects of the game, such as the hyper-sexualization of teenaged characters or the inclusion of taboo relationships (teacher/student, brother/sister, shotacon).
These are definitely legitimate concerns, especially when viewed from the perspective of cultural sensitivity and media responsibility. However, it's equally important to recognize that many of these controversial elements in the game, are not original to this game — they are drawn directly from long-standing anime conventions, which the game seeks to parody rather than promote.
Alot of tropes in the game that people seem to take issue with, such as:
- Panty Shots, voyeurism, and creepiness.
- Sexualization, and objectification of teenaged characters
- Brother/Sister relationships
- Teacher/Student relationships
- Yandere Degeneracy.
- Japanese portrayal
originate from Anime, Hentai, and Anime Stereotypes.
Please do not act like I am wrong, I know that people know that this is the truth.
I'm not going to cherry pick, but a lot of these tropes, do originate from Anime, hentai, and Japanese stereotypes.
People complain 24/7 about these tropes, yet with that logic, why don't they also complain against Anime/hentai series which do the same thing such as:
-
Panty shots and voyeurism
are staples in shows like
To Love-Ru
or
Heaven’s Lost Property
, often used for comedic or titillating effect.
-
Sexualization of high school students
is prevalent in countless anime, from
Kill la Kill
to
High School DxD, hell, even Naruto
--- where the main characters are portrayed as minors and are frequently designed and framed in overtly sexual ways.
-
Teacher-student and sibling dynamics
are often central to romantic or suggestive subplots in anime such as
Onii-chan Dakedo Ai Sae Areba Kankeinai yo ne!
or
Please Teacher! ---
let alone the mountains of Hentai which play on this exact trope.
-
"Yandere" behavior itself,
obsessive, violent, and mentally unstable love interests, is a well-known archetype, found in characters like Yuno Gasai (
Future Diary
) or Kotonoha Katsura (
School Days
).

Even in actual Japanese Anime, these tropes exist. The previously mentioned examples ORIGINATE FROM
JAPANESE
ANIME. If people were to bitch at Alex for the "degradation of Japanese culture" due to his portrayal of Japan, then they're being ignorant to the source material in which this game is satirizing.More importantly, the game does not completely degrade Japan, or it's culture - as there are a plethora of respectable representations of Japanese culture in the game - and even then, people should recognize that Japanese anime culture ≠ Japanese culture.
It comes off as extremely hypocritical when the community decides to gang up and shit on the game for having these tropes, despite the fact that it's source material isn't any different, and even then; Yandere Simulator's representation of these tropes are more tame compared to the actual source materials, which portray these tropes much more disturbingly (To Love-ru, for example, showcases actual child nudity).
The game isn't meant for kids, it's intended audience is aimed for young adults. I really don't understand why people attempt to censor the game, when the inclusion of these tropes add to it's authenticity.
Unpopular opinion: I actually like the inclusion of these controversial tropes in the game, and I think they should be included.
And it's not because I support the sexualization of teenagers, or the objectification of women, or the misrepresentation of Japan - but instead because it adds to the game's authenticity, as a portrayal as a parody for Japanese anime stereotypes, and themes.
What is even more concerning is the extreme ignorance, hypocrisy, and confirmation bias that this community displays.
There are more disturbing elements in the game that, realistically, should receive the most controversy, yet they don't for some odd reason. For example, in the game:
- You are able to commit mass murder in a school setting and kill teenagers.
- You are able to kidnap, torture, and frame people for murder.
- You can play as the bully and bully people into committing suicide.
- You engage in organized crime and can have the Yakuza harvest students' organs.
The list goes on.
Yet the community is "okay" with this?
So you could bludgeon, stab, burn, drown, and poison countless students in a high school, and the r/osana community doesn't bat an eye. Yet when students' skirts are a few inches too short, or their bust sizes are slightly larger than normal, the community suddenly grabs their torches and pitchforks, decides to play the moral virtue card, and criticizes the game?
If the community is okay with allowing mass murder in a school setting (which is, honestly, the most concerning element in the game), then by that logic, they should be okay with a skirt that's a few inches too short.
Still, the community is definitely a solid pillar of virtue! (sarcasm)
No, it's hypocritical. If you condemn slight sexualization of teenagers but are okay with mass murder in schools, then you are not the pillar of virtue that you claim to be.
Make it make sense, r/osana community.
Like, please, get your white ass back to the gated community you came from. The criticism from this community about this game originates from hyper-sensitivity, ignorance, confirmation bias, and a lack of understanding.
This because when critiques lose sight of that context, they risk misunderstanding the entire premise. Satire often treads a fine line between commentary and offense, and while it won’t resonate with everyone, dismissing the game entirely without acknowledging its satirical framework may overlook the Alex’s intent.
Furthermore, equating the game's content with a degradation of Japanese culture conflates Japanese anime culture with Japanese society at large --- a distinction that should be made more carefully.
Anime, like any media form, reflects a wide range of genres, messages, and creative liberties that don't necessarily represent the values of an entire nation.
With that logic, all anime should equate to being hentai?
That's obviously not true, right? and if you agree with that, then with that logic, Yandere Simulator isn't some sex fantasy for Alex and a representation of his wet dreams.
You can claim that Alex's introduction of "super serious" lore dismisses the claim the game is a parody, but that's actually the opposite.
We should actually be commending Alex for his ability to make the game interesting with it's lore past it's anime exterior - the Yandere lore is actually really interesting, and I know for a fact that other people in the community enjoy it as well.
And Alex can do whatever he wants with his game - Games like Grand Theft Auto are satirized to the core and parody pop culture, despite being crime simulators, yet they aren't criticized the same way Yandere Simulator is?
So then why can't Yandere Simulator be given the same treatment, and be respected for ability to maintain intriguing lore, combined with parody?
ONE LAST NOTE:
I am not a support of Alex. I believe he is a very vile, petty, immature, and disgusting person. But I respect his game and his vision for it.
I believe in separating art from the artist, and I believe that Yandere Simulator is a work of art - a fun intriguing game that utilizes references to anime stereotypes, which I can recognize and appreciate.
Even if Alex is a diddler, his game is still fun to play, and interesting to understand.
Other Examples:
XXXTentacion was a violent domestic abuser who savagely beat his pregnant girlfriend into a bloody pulp and assaulted fans, but made amazing, and hopeful music that inspired millions.
Sigmund Freud held delusional misogynistic views, yet shaped modern psychology and therapy that helps millions.
Ho Chi Minh led a brutal regime and is responsible for millions of deaths, yet he’s seen as a hero of anti-colonial resistance, liberated his country from European bullying, defeated the United States, opposed the other communist states, and actually gave power to the people unlike other communist leaders, which shaped Vietnam is the superpower that it is today, with infrastructure rivaling that of Japan, China, and South Korea, when other South East Asian countries are still left in destitute.
Fuckin' Notch is a racist, yet created Minecraft, one of the most inspirational video games of all time, instilling creativity, creating community, and instilling unity for even billions.
If we can separate the art from the artist for these people, then why can't we do the same for Alex, and Yandere Simulator?

This isn't to say all criticism is invalid — far from it. Constructive feedback is essential to the growth of any creative project, such as this. But I believe it should be delivered with an understanding of the genre conventions being engaged with and a willingness to distinguish between parody and promotion. More importantly, the majority of the critiscm here, is not usually directed at the game, and more or less is just over-used and washed up insults towards to creator.
Like 2020 called, they want their YandereDev insults back - grow up community and get original, it's been a decade, if you stuck around this long, you might as well WANT the game to come out.
If someone finds that this type of satire represented in the game doesn't align with their tastes or values, that’s completely valid. But perhaps instead of demanding that the core identity of the game be altered, it might be more productive to either engage with it critically through informed dialogue or simply choose content that better aligns with one’s preferences. The game is clearly intended for a mature audience, and ideally, discussions around it should reflect that level of maturity as well.
TLDR: If you don't like the controversial sexual aspects of the game, then fuck off and leave.
"wahh wahh skirts too short wahh wahahh teenagers boobs wayy too big wahh wahh"
like get your white ass back to the suburbs bro.
